Can Cats Swim?

It’s a common misconception that cats in general do not like the water and therefore do not like or know how to swim. Although this may be true for some cats, it is definitely not true for all cats. There are actually some cats that love to not only be around the water, but they also enjoy taking a quick swim every now and then. For instance, the Aegean cat is known for its presence along the coasts of the Aegean sea. They are most accustomed to the sea and may be seen jumping in to grab a fish for their next meal. Most cats know how to swim instinctively like dogs. They can keep themselves afloat and make it to safety if they accidentally fall in. Some studies show that cats from warmer climates (i.e. Abyssinian, Sphynx, Turkish Van, Burmese, Aegean, etc.) like to swim. Click here to call your vets Webster, NY and learn more.
