Do Cats Need Sunscreen ?

The question may seem a little odd, but the answer is surprisingly yes. While not all cats need sunscreen, there are those that do. Why? Well, for the most part cats are protected from harmful sun rays due to their coat. Cats with thick coats are least likely to have sun damage to their skin. Casts with short or thin coats, however, are prone to sunburn. All cats are prone to sun damage in areas that are not covered with fur such as the stomach, under the arms (i.e. legs), the nose and even the tips of the ears. You can protect your cat by applying a vet approved sunscreen or you can keep your cat out of the direct sunlight. Some owners prefer their cats wear a cat shirt to protect the skin and coat. Ask about cat sunscreen and ways to keep your cat safe from the sun by calling your pet clinic Cincinnati OH.
