Depression In Siamese Cats

Siamese cats are also affectionately called “meezers”. They are people cats, which means they are used to being the center of attention in the household. When they are ignored or if they feel isolated, meezers can develop depression and anxiety. They can suffer from serious mental and emotional issues. In fact, experts call these as an “emotional shut down”. Depressed Siamese cats spend the time hiding away from every body else. Not being around people can actually traumatize them emotionally. Some will go days without eating anything and this can have serious health implications. A cat can become ill as a result of dehydration or poor food intake. A depressed cat may also stop grooming himself and may dirty and matted hair. Siamese cats don’t make ideal pets for people who are out of the house most of the day.
