What is the first thing you do when you hear of an approaching storm or other type of ‘natural’ disaster? You probably stock up on non-perishable foods, water, flashlights, batteries, etc. Did you know you should stock up necessities for your horse as well? If you know a storm is coming then you should try to plan to have enough grain, hay and water to last at least a week after the storm. By doing this you will have everything you need if there should be major destruction in your area. It will be at least a week before some things are back up and running or supplies can be sent in. In addition, you should have your horse wearing some type of ID. Horses can be microchipped for ID. You can also braid your contact information into the horse’s tail or even spray paint your phone number on your horse’s body. Fluorescent orange ID halters are also available.
