Trying to teach your dog not to jump on the furniture? Here are a few tips. First, when he does it, tell him ‘down’ and point to the floor. Give him a little help if needed. When he gets back on the floor reward him. If he does it again, tell him ‘down’ again. Reward him for getting down. If he does it a third time, tell him down and then put him in another room or block the couch. Don’t reward him as he may be just doing it for the reward after he gets down. If he can get on furniture, but you don’t want him to jump up there, you can teach him to ask first by having him place his paw on the couch or chair and then saying ‘OK’. If he climbs up then give him a treat. If he jumps then start again. Talk to your vet Gresham, OR for more suggestions.
