Dogs love to explore things and they love to use their nose and their mouth to investigate what they’re exploring. Sniffing and smelling things is usually not a problem, but tasting and even eating things can be dangerous. For instance, some dogs will put rocks in their mouth to get a better taste of where the rock has been or what animal has been around the rock. These are usually small rocks. Tasting rocks out of curiosity is common, but can be dangerous so if you have small rocks around make sure your dog can’t get to them. Other reasons your dog may eat or swallow rocks can be medical related. In fact, the behavior of eating rocks is called pica. It can be brought about by frustration, anxiety and stress. Indications that your dog has swallowed rocks include lethargy and a lack of appetite. Please call your experienced vets clinic Frisco TX right away.
