Maltipoos are often perceived to be a hypoallergenic breed because their tightly-curled hair that they have inherited from the poodle side of their ancestry sheds little or not at all. Any hair that is shed is caught up in the curled folds and needs to be brushed out to remove. Because maltipoos are crossbreds (maltese X poodle), variation in coat qualities between puppies in the same litter can occur. Maltipoos that inherit more of the maltese hair coat genes have long and straight hair that requires regular grooming assistance. Those with curly hair coat (from the poodl’es side of their genes) will require hair brushing at least 2-3 weeks a week to remove any dead hair. Some maltipoos may also need to have the hair around their eyes, mouth, nose, and behind trimmed regularly.
