Teaching Your Cat the House Rules

You might not be about to obedience train your cat but you can teach her basic house rules such as consistent use of the litter box or an understanding that aggression won’t be tolerated. You might also want your cat to follow other house rules about not scratching the sofa and belongings or staying off the kitchen counters. Keep training gentle but consistent. Repeat training often until your cat accepts your house rules. Don’t punish or yell at your cat as she is learning. Using redirection will give her positive things to do as does making undesired activities something your cat won’t want to do either. For example, you can give your cat a cat condo or a scratching post so you can redirect her to appropriate behavior. Whereas clawing the sofa arms or walking on the kitchen counters while they are covered with aluminum foil is not pleasant. Contact your veterinary clinic Jacksonville, FL to learn more.
