If you own a pony or work with ponies, it’s important that you know or recognize the signs of colic so that treatment and care can be given as soon as possible. Ponies and horses alike tend to colic when something is going worn gin their gastro-intestinal tract. Severe abdominal pain can occur which in turn leads to some of the first signs of colic. Which includes pawing at the ground, lying down for long periods of time, excessive rolling, thrashing or kicking out while down, grunting, moaning or groaning, etc. When you see this, please call your vet. Watch your horse’s behaviors, track the symptoms and follow the vet’s instructions.
