If you’re new to the chinchilla world then you may have some basic questions as to what to feed your pet chinchilla. You can talk with your pet store associate or vet to find out the best foods for chinchillas. Generally, chinchillas should be on a regular pellet food made specifically for chinchillas. In addition, chinchillas need to have quality grass hay to munch and graze on. If you want to feed treats make sure you do so in moderation and check with your vet first on what to give as treats. For instance, chinchillas enjoy eating raisins, pumpkin seeds, sunflower seeds, crackers, rose branches, apple branches or even willow branches. Hay should always be readily available as this is the chinchillas natural source of fiber. Hay is also said to help keep the chinchilla’s teeth healthy and clean.
