Have you ever been out in your yard or on a nearby trail and discovered a bird that didn’t look like it belonged in that area? Sometimes, pet birds (I.e. cockatoos, cockatiels, parrots, etc.) can get loose from their home and wander or fly around in the area. He may be in the woods or simply perched on something in your yard. If you find a bird wandering about, please call your local animal control officer to report the bird. If you can, approach the bird slowly and use a low voice to see if he will come to you. If he does, give him your finger or arm to perch on. Place him in a secure cage or box and notify the animal control office. Taking the bird to your local vet until the owner can be located is also an option. Make sure he has water and bird food (if you have some) before transporting him. Call your vet clinic Derby ahead of arrival as well.
