Contrary to popular belief, yarn is not the best option when it comes to toys for your cat. Why? Yarn can be dangerous for cats. For instance, if your cat unravels a ball of yarn and then becomes entangled in it he could accidentally wrap the yarn around his neck and choke. If no one is supervising then he could even choke to death. Or, if the yarn is chewed into a small piece and the cat accidentally swallows it then he could choke. Should the yarn be swallowed, it can get stuck in the stomach or intestines and cause a major illness. This has happened to some cats and surgery has been needed to remove part of the intestines and repair the digestive track.
