Causes of Fast Breathing in Dogs

Fast or labored breathing in dogs can be due to a variety of possible causes.

Panting is normal, and it’s a thermoregulatory response created by a dog, for example when there’s been a change in the environmental condition (warm weather) or when your beloved furry canine friend has undergone exercise, walking, running, or playing.

There are certain cases when fast or labored breathing may mean there’s something more serious behind it; a medical condition perhaps which might need a quick visit to your preferred vet or animal clinic.

For instance, dyspnea can be a lethal and emergency condition as it may block oxygen distribution or availability. In cases of labored breathing in much older pets, this fast breathing might be due to an unusual collection of fluids in the lungs, or a symptom of lung or heart ailments. Other medical issues to consider are pneumonia, lung cancer, chest wall injury, allergies.

If you’re worried about any of these, you should consult your vet Leesburg, VA right away.
