How to Stop Your Kitty’s Scratching and Clawing

Cat scratching is one of the behaviors that is often misunderstood by people including cat owners. In fact, some cat owners punish their cats when they see the latter do scratching around the house, and punishment actually results to more potential problems. A punished cat can get stressed and feel nervous. Worse, the punished cat can eventually turn aggressive, become withdrawn from his owner, or even urinate right after the punishment. As you might now realize, punishing a cat won’t really solve the scratching behavior. Instead, use the following tip to help put a stop to this behavior.

Give your cat a few “legal” surfaces or areas that he can scratch. When a cat doesn’t have such a surface, they would scratch anywhere or use their claws to explore objects and surfaces. Scratching is also a way for them to use their pent-up physical and mental energy. It even helps reduce stress and therefore can help make them feel good.
