Problems are going to be expected if you shift your pet ferret’s diet too quickly. As with anything, time is key. Allow your pet to gradually ease into the new diet. Provide him with ample time so no trouble arises.
It’s usually ideal to start feeding your ferret with small quantities of the new food. Offer it using your hand. Allow him to smell and taste the new food and see how he reacts. Using your hand to introduce new food is a proven technique. Pets are comfortable with their owner’s hands and are less dubious. They’ll react more positively compared to placing the new food on their food bowls. If the reaction is good you may now start to mix it in with his old food. Go slow, but gradual. Start by using a 25-new to 75-old ratio. Work your way up to a 50:50 ratio. Observe your pet ferret’s reactions. If all is good, you can go further by using a 25-old to 75-new formulation and eventually make the switch. If this is all new to you, consult your local vet clinic Greater Cincinnati for more information about your pet ferret’s diet.
