  • The goat appears weak or lethargic. The animal may not be as active as usual. Some don’t get up at all.
  • There may be problems with the goat’s gait and posture. The head and ears may appear to droop. And the goat may limp or stagger.
  • Loss of appetite and/or reduced water intake.
  • Head-pressing against solid surfaces, such as the fence or wall.
  • Has problem urinating or is not urinating at all
  • The ears are held strangely
  • Runny or loose feces
  • Blisters in the mouth and nose
  • Udder feels hot to the touch
  • Midsection appears swollen or bloated
  • Nasal and/or eye discharges
  • Coughing or abnormal breathing
  • Excessive bleating
  • Separates from the herd

Symptoms that are considered serious emergencies include a goat that is lying down for several hours without getting up or moving, a swollen or bloated abdomen that is usually accompanied by excessive bleating, and separating from the rest of the heard for a considerable length of time.
