UTI infections are common in people and in animals. UTI stands for Urinary Tract Infection. If you own a dog then you have probably experienced a UTI or will experience a UTI in your dog. UTI’s are quite common. Signs or symptoms usually include your dog’s inability to urinate, passing small amounts of urine at a time, blood in the urine, leaking of urine, frequent urination, increased water consumption, and/or fever. You should notify our vet right away of these symptoms. Your dog will most likely also be in pain even though he may not show it right away. Your vet can exam your dog and run bloodwork and a urinary analysis to find a diagnosis. Treatment usually consists of antibiotics, diet change and possibly surgery in extreme cases. Antibiotics are the most common and usually effective right away. Learn more here or ask your veterinarians Town of Thompson, NY.
