Did you know that cats can suffer from arthritis or osteoarthritis as they age? Are you familiar with these terms and did you know there’s a difference? Arthritis is often the term used to refer to the painful inflammation of a cat’s joints. This is not the same as Osteoarthritis or DJD (also known as Degenerative Joint Disease). Osteoarthritis occurs when the joint starts to deteriorate completely. Both arthritis and osteoarthritis can occur in a cat at any age, but they are more common in older cats. Some expert have found that these conditions ae also more common in cats already prone to conditions such as hip dysplasia. Symptoms of arthritis may include your cat having trouble getting up and down or even losing balance or coordination. X-rays may be required to make a full diagnosis. Treatment may include inflammatory medications as well as joint supplements. Click here to learn more or contact your vet clinic London, ON.
