Applying Flea and Tick Ointment to Dogs

In the past, one of the main forms of flea and tick preventative medication was a liquid ointment. If you are still using this ointment here are some tips. First, open the ointment and turn the lid upside down and insert it into the tube. This breaks the safety seal. Next, locate your dog’s shoulder blades on his back. Split the hair so you see the skin. Apply the ointment directly to the skin. You can do this in one spot or multiple spots. Some dogs have been known to have allergic reactions to this while other dogs just don’t like the wet feel. If this is your dog, ask your vet about an alternative flea and tick medication. There are several types available including oral medications given monthly and oral medications that can be given every three months. Avoid buying over the counter medication as they have been known to cause dogs to become ill. Call your veterinarian Acupuncture instead.
