Like humans, our pet cats can also develop conditions of the kidney – one such common concern is acute kidney failure (AKF). Since the kidney functions as the body’s filter for the blood, having AKF can cause problems such as toxin buildup in the body, allowing for metabolic wastes to circulate in the blood, electrolyte imbalance, and some physiological abnormalities. While AKF is a serious health concern, it is, however, treatable and reversible if diagnosed early and treated intensively. The condition is known to occur in cats across all ages. However, older cats are more predisposed.
Acute kidney failure is a critical condition and will show sudden symptoms at the onset of development. A loss of appetite, vomiting, diarrhea, listlessness, distinct odor from the nose or mouth, disrupted urination patterns, and/or seizures are some of the known symptoms. AKF may also arise as a result of surgery, illness, trauma, or toxin ingestion.
You should have your pet cat treated immediately by a veterinarian Cy-Fair if you detect any sign of illness.
