Ferret odor is quite offensive for everyone and it is difficult to get rid of their strong scent even after spaying or neutering them, although proper care for their environment can greatly help in controlling their pungent smell. Routine bathing every week can also help lessen their strong scent. Ferret odor gets stronger during their mating season because this is when both males and females produce more of those greasy skin secretions: this is where the strong odor is coming from. So if ever you’re thinking of having one as a pet, try smelling first a clean ferret to check if you’ll be able to tolerate their scent and if not, maybe a pet ferret is not the right one for you. Try your best to maintain cleanliness not only around their cage and bed at least once every week, but also their litter box at least twice a day.
