Toxic Foods for Gerbils: Grapes and Rhubarb

Gerbils love to snack on a variety of foods including gerbil pellets and a few vegetables and fruits. Your vet can help you put together a diet for y9our gerbil. He can also give you tips and warnings for foods that your gerbil shouldn’t have. For instance, it is not a good idea to give your gerbil grapes or rhubarb as part of their diet of fruits. These particular fruits are toxic to rodents and your gerbil is part of the rodent family. If your gerbil gets hold of toxic fruit, call your vet right away. Be sure to tell your vet what particular fruit or food your gerbil ate so he can tell you how to treat the poison. As a general rule, try to keep the following items on hand: liquid antacid, vegetable oil, hydrogen peroxide, diluted vinegar and lemon juice. Ask your pet clinic Scottsdale, AZ before feeding your gerbil something new.
