Sneezing in Snakes

Did you know your snake can sneeze? Has there ever been a time when you’ve heard your snake give off a sound very similar to a sneeze? That sound was probably an actual sneeze. Snakes can sneeze or cough in similar ways to humans. If your snake is sneezing on a frequent basis, you should talk to your vet. The sneeze may indicate an underlying illness or it may not mean anything at all. Some snakes sneeze because of dust in the atmosphere or if particular odors such as perfumes and colognes are present. Snakes have nostrils similar to humans. Although their nostrils are not used to smell, snakes do need them to breathe. Irritants in the nostril passages can cause sneezing much like it does in humans. Although sneezing and coughing do not necessarily indicate a cold, you should always contact your vet clinic Middletown, DEjust in case. Your snake may need a quick nostril cleaning.
