Why Cats Should Be Spayed Or Neutered

De-sexing refers to the surgical removal of a cat’s reproductive organ. Veterinarians perform the procedure which is also known as neutering for male cats and spaying for female cats. Cats can be very prolific if they are not fixed.  It is best to have your cat undergo this procedure when she is six months of age. This will prevent your cat from having any unwanted pregnancies. By this age, cats will also start developing behaviors that are influenced by hormones, such as wandering and spray marking.

Neutering of male cats reduces or altogether stops their urge to roam around and search for female cats that are in heat. Male cats have the possibility of getting in trouble while roaming. The risk of fighting with other cats is high, as well as being prey to bigger animals. Fights can give them bite wounds that can lead to abscesses and serious infections. Contracting feline immunodeficiency disease and other health conditions are also likely to happen.

If you have concerns about spaying and/or neutering, talk to your veterinarian Washington DC about it or Visit their profile to know more.
