Did you know that snakes will attack just about anything that it believes to be a threat it including an unknowing alpaca? If your alpaca has been bitten by a snake, call your vet immediately. Snake bites can be serious and even life threatening if not discovered and treated right away. Symptoms of a snake bite may include the alpaca lying flat, convulsing or seizing, arching his neck and back, legs shaking, labored breathing, and dilated pupils. Some alpaca owners have reported seeing their alpaca standing with the herd perfectly fine one minute and then all of the sudden flat out on the ground the next. In these instance, a call to the vet was made followed by an applied home remedy of vitamin C. Studies show that vitamin C can help fight against the poisonous venom of a snake bite. Check with your vet first before using vitamin C. Ask your vet clinic Derby before using this treatment.
