Cages Not Suitable For Pet Mice

Wire cages and converted aquariums are considered to be the best types of enclosures for mice kept as pets. It is best to be familiar with each type’s advantages and disadvantages so you can decide which one to get for your pet.

Be aware, though, that there are cages that are marketed to be for pet mice, but in reality, are insufficient in meeting their housing needs.

  • Shoebox Cage

These are undersized, plastic enclosures that would not have space for basic accessories. They also tend to be poorly ventilated and flimsy.

  • Habitat Cage

These are the ones normally seen as brightly plastic colored, enclosures that have tunnels, tubes, and various wheels and domes already built-in. They seem visually striking and could be very appealing, but be aware that these cages tend to be undersized, have poor ventilation, and difficult to clean. Since they are made of plastic, pet rats can damage them easily by gnawing.

Any sign of illness exhibited by your pet should warrant a visit to your animal hospital Louisville, KY.
