Bringing a New Cat Home

Being in a new environment can bring your new pet cat lots of stress. Before you arrive at your home, ensure that you have already reserved a room where your cat will stay. Ensure that the room is quiet, cozy, and away from other people and pets in the house. Prepare a clean bowl of water and litter box accessible to your pet. When you arrive, place the carrier in its room. Do not force contact with your new pet as it may become easily overwhelmed and anxious. It will also help if there is a sofa or couch inside the room where your cat can hide, in case it feels unsafe. Leave your cat in the room and allow it to familiarize itself with its new surroundings. Ensure that the room is pet-proofed to prevent any accidents from happening. Once your cat feels uncomfortable, introduce it to the other room one at a time.

Any sign of illness exhibited by your cat should prompt a visit to your veterinarian Gresham OR.
