Fleas are these ubiquitous external parasites that can afflict dogs, cats, and even humans. They are a very common and bothersome insect. - Spot-on treatment
These medicated treatments are usually only applied to a single spot on the body, normally, on the skin at the back of your pet’s neck. However, since the animal has oil glands throughout the skin, the medication can spread completely. Products like these are formulated so that rain, bathing, or swimming will not affect them. The effect usually lasts for a number of weeks before the need to reapply. Depending on the components used, these products can either interrupt the flea life-cycle and/or repel or kill fleas outright.
- Oral anti-flea treatment
Should the flea infestation be so heavy that a spot-on treatment is not enough, an orally taken medication could be used in conjunction. An anti-flea tablet is normally provided once every month so that the flea life-cycle is disrupted, but, note that adult fleas are not killed by most.
- Anti-flea shampoos and soaps
These are effective and cheaper methods in treating your pet afflicted with fleas. However, using these items is labor-intensive, and has to be reapplied every two weeks at the very least so that it becomes effective enough.
There are other methods available to eliminate fleas, such as flea dips, flea sprays, and powders, flea collars, and flea traps. You can also consider fogging or spraying your house and property against fleas.
