Why It’s Important To Wean Your Puppy

Weaning refers to the process of teaching your puppies to stop taking their mother’s milk for sustenance. Instead, your puppy should start eating solid food. Remember that weaning should be done gradually. It is best to wean the puppy when it is around 3- weeks old. Don’t rush the weaning process to avoid any negative reactions.

Experts recommend that you still use the puppy food that you give to the mother so as not to disrupt the digestive process. Put the solid food and replacer milk in the blender to enhance the appeal of the food.

You might notice that your puppy will not easily like pet food. Chances are, it will just sniff the food you prepared and walk away. Use a shallow bowl so the puppy can easily gain access to the new food.

When the puppy starts to like the food you prepared, you can decrease the amount of liquid you use. Eventually, your puppy will no longer need the milk replacer. And you will only be serving kibble. By 6-7 weeks old, it will be used to consuming kibbles only.
