Grooming Needs Of Devon Rex Cats

pet clinic Crown Point IN

The breed called “Devon Rex” is characterized by their hair coat, which looks curly and sparse.  This characteristic is the result of having a gene that is recessive.  However, this cat breed requires a certain grooming regimen due to its fragile fur.  So fragile, that even the gentlest brushing motion can break the strands.  A devon rex’s skin glands also secrete oil that makes the coat appear greasy.  These skin oils, though, are essential in maintaining the integrity and health of fur and skin.  Now, in most other cat breeds, skin oils tend to be evenly distributed all over the fur coat, therefore, avoiding the greasy look.  But with the devon rex breed’s thin fur, that oil tends to accrue on the skin instead.  The breed’s nail beds could also seem greasy.  And without assistance in regular grooming, the oils that are produced by the Devon Rex’s body will get rubbed off on beds, carpets, furniture, or basically anything that the cat can come into contact with.

Any skin and/or hair coat issue should warrant an appointment with your pet clinic Crown Point, IN.
