Dental health is just as important for dogs as it is for people. Of course, your dog can’t brush his own teeth, so it’s up to you to do that for him.
Make sure to only use products that were specifically made for dogs. Our toothpaste is too strong for pets, and our toothbrushes aren’t angled the right way for their mouths.
At first, just get your pet used to have his teeth touched. Gently rub his teeth and gums with your finger as you are petting him. Offer praise treats, and ear scritches. Then, when he accepts this, you can start using his dental products.
This will be easiest if you start training your dog to tolerate having his teeth brushed while he’s a puppy. However, you can still train an older dog: it just may take more time. And more treats.
Ask your vet Marietta, GA for more information on caring for your pet’s teeth. This is one area where an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure!
