Off-Leash Walks On Trails With Your Pet Dog

Allowing your pet dog a period of play and exercise without his leash on is a nice idea so long as the area is fenced in and safe.  This area might be your friend’s backyard, a park for dogs, or your own yard.  If this is not an option, you may want to consider taking your pet walking on trails or running.  One thing you must first do is to locate a trail that is dog-friendly and check to see if it is allowed to take pet dogs off-leash.  This is because some trail systems or parks do not allow off-leash pets.  Once you find a trail that allows this, first have the leash on and walk the trail with your dog so that he becomes more familiar with the area.  Next, you can allow him off his leash for a short distance just to make sure that your pet still responds to commands and will return if called.  If your pet fails to come back, restrict his off-leash time.  If you are unsure, just keep the leash on. Be sure that your pet’s preventatives and vaccinations are up to date before going on outdoor excursions Check with your vet Ellicott City, MD. Schedule an appointment today!
