Bearded dragons are more lizards than dragons. Both males and females possess beards. When there are perceived threats, bearded dragons puff out their beards so they will appear bigger and menacing. A full-grown bearded dragon can be housed comfortably in a 40-gallon terrarium that is about 36 inches in length. But a bigger terrarium, about 48 inches x 24 inches. More spacious enclosures provide enough room for beardies to run and exercise without needing to spend regular time outside their enclosures. A screened lid completes the enclosure. There is a need to install a heat source as beardies are used to living in a hot and dry environment. These pets are best housed alone as they prefer to be solitary.
