Wood Turtles and Hibernation Needs

Do you own a pet turtle like the Wood turtle? The Wood turtle is one of the more friendly and tame species of turtles. These particular turtles are named for their love of roaming dry land. They also enjoy a good swim every now and again as well. Before purchasing a Wood turtle, talk with your pet store associate about the type of habitat you should provide for your turtle. You should also ask your vet if the Wood turtle hibernates and if so find out if he will need special housing. In general, turtles tend to hibernate anywhere from 10 to 20 weeks during the fall. If your Wood Turtle is going to hibernate he will need hiding spots or hide boxes. These places are tight, enclosed, dark areas where your turtle can hide and eventually hibernate for however long is needed. Learn more here or call your veterinary clinic Wichita, KS.
