A lot of reasons can make a dog howl. A behavioral problem can be one reason. If a dog is going through separation anxiety will usually howl in anxiety and longing for his human companions. If a dog has behavioral issues, he will seem stressed and anxious and will howl as a method of getting his human companion’s attention. Should your pet have separation anxiety, his howling will usually be joined by inappropriate elimination, destructive behavior, and searching for escape routes among others. There are ways to handle separation anxiety, but if the case seems severe, you may want to consult a professional animal behaviorist and/or your veterinarian to manage the issue.
Along with separation anxiety, canine howling might also signify that your pet is trying to get your attention. There are certain dog breeds that are inherently more vocal when compared with other breeds. Then again, the dog’s personality could also play a part.
