A pot-bellied pig does not have to be dirty and stinky. But most people will still have reservations about keeping one as an animal companion. Much like any other pet, pot-bellies have grooming needs that their keeper must maintain for the well-being and the health of the animal. Grooming regimens like teeth trimming, hoof trimming, frequent baths, and ear cleaning must be included.
●Dental health
○A male pig’s trucks require regular trimming, most especially the neutered ones so that they do not grow too long. However, this task is best handled by your vet.
●Trimming hooves
○If not trimmed, hooves will become overgrown and curl over. If your pet spends a lot of time outside, then hoof trimming may not be much of a need for them when compared to those kept indoors most of the time. Walking on abrasive or rough surfaces often can keep hooves trimmed.
●Baths
○When you go and bathe your pot-bellied pig, try using a shampoo with moisturizing properties. This will maintain their skin’s health and suppleness while also preventing drying out.
●Cleaning the ears
○Use moist novelettes or moist cotton balls. Use an ear cleaning solution when moistening the cotton. Clean gently, and only the external parts of your pig’s ears.
