Degus are social creatures, often play fighting with one another. If you do not see any injuries after they rough house with one another, then you should not worry. Like other social animals, degus will need to determine a social structure and this process usually involves all-out battles or perhaps just slight squabbles trying to prove their dominance. As your degus play fights, they chase and nip at each other, chattering all the while this goes on. They may chase each other around their cage but these actions rarely end in injuries.
There are times, however, that degus housed in the same cage will not just get along and could turn play fights into real fights and you may need to keep them apart from each other so that they do not injure one another. If the fight becomes too intense and the injuries sustained become extreme, then the play fighting has become real.
