Choosing Hamster Bedding

If you want to keep your hamster comfortable, you need to provide two kinds of bedding materials for its cage. The first bedding material will be placed on the floor, while the second bedding is for sleeping.

These bedding materials may use woods, papers, dried grasses, and grain bits. The materials could be cut up, shaved, or cut into pellets and stripes. When you choose the bedding materials, you should also consider the kind of enclosure and breed of hamster that you have.

But you cannot guarantee how your pet would react to the materials used in the bedding. You might have to change the bedding often until you get the one that agrees with the hamster’s temperament.

The kind of bedding material for the floor should also depend on the kind of cage and type of hamster that you have. Some hamsters like fluffy beddings so they will try to get the bed to expand. If you have a Syrian breed, the bedding should have a 3-4 inches allowance. For dwarf hamsters, thinner bedding is recommended.

In general, you won’t go wrong if you use too much material for bedding. This extra bedding will come in handy during the cold season.
