Prepping Your Dog for Parties

Hosting parties and celebrating special occasions at home with friends and relatives is exciting and enjoyable. However, that may not be the case for our pets. For some dogs, parties can be a source of stress and anxiety because of the new faces, noise, and disruptions in daily routine. When our pets are stressed, we are, too, which makes parties not fun at all.

Dogs thrive in routines. On the day of the event, try to keep your pet’s daily schedule as much as possible. Dogs protect their territory, so keep your pet inside the crate if it uses one. Place the crate inside a room to prevent your dog from getting overwhelmed by people. Confining your dog in a room also avoids accidents if your dog displays destructive behaviors. Instruct your guests not to feed or play with your dog as some dogs have a phobia of unfamiliar people. Days before the event, refresh your dog with the basic commands, which can help you control your dog’s actions and tame it if it becomes uneasy during the party.

Any sign of illness exhibited by your pet should require an appointment with your local veterinary hospital Frisco, TX.
