Phobias And Anxieties In Dogs — Are They The Same?

Phobia is the excessive and persistent feelings of fear of some particular stimulus.  There is this suggestion that after an event causes a phobia, and then any other associated event to the original, or even just memories of it, would be enough to trigger a response.

Loud noises like fireworks and thunderstorms are the usual phobias observed in dogs.

Canine Anxiety

On the other hand, anxiety is anticipating the unknown, also imagining dangers yet to be experienced.  This anticipation results in physiological reactions that are usually linked to fear.

The usual behaviors are bowel movements, urination, destructive habits, crying, barking, and other excessive vocalization.  Some dog owners also observe too much pacing and/or panting.

One common anxiety in pet dogs that is very specific is separation anxiety.  With this anxiety, pet dogs that are left by themselves for quite some time show distress and anxious behaviors.

Any concern you may have about your pet’s behavior should be brought to the attention of your trusted animal hospital San Diego CA.
