Cats Mark Territory By Kneading

Another reason why your pet cat likes to knead is to mark her territory. As you know, cat paws have scent glands, too. The scent that your cat leaves tells the others which cat is there, the mood, and willingness for reproduction.

An intact female cat will knead to tell her readiness for reproduction. She leaves her scent on various objects and in the air to announce her willingness to mate. There will be other signs to show readiness to mate aside from kneading.

Reproduction in cats is a serious concern among pet owners. To control the cat population, it would be best to have the pet spayed or neutered before they get to the reproductive age. This same practice is implemented in animal shelters to prepare the animal for adoption.  Spaying or neutering also fixes the cat’s behavior, like reducing aggression or marking, and territoriality.
