Vaping Is Hazardous For Dogs

The latest in systems for nicotine delivery, e-cigarettes, seem to pose quite a significant hazard to pet dogs.  Devices like these vaporize this liquid mixture of nicotine, propylene glycol, glycerin, and flavorings.  Also, in states that have legalized marijuana, THC could be part of the components.  This liquid, also known as e-juice, does come in various flavors like cloudberry, cotton candy, and cinnamon, and dogs might find themselves enticed by the sweet scent.

The ASPCA Animal Poison Control Center has included nicotine and cigarettes on the list of hazardous household substances and warns us that the e-juice used for refilling vape device cartridges have enough nicotine in them to end a dog’s life.  Nicotine poisoning symptoms include depression, increased heart rate, seizures, lowered blood pressure, severe vomiting, and up to respiratory failure.

Should you have suspicions that your pet dog has ingested e-cigarette cartridges or any other toxic substances, immediately call your veterinarian Shreveport LA, poison control hotline, or local animal clinic or hospital.

Home care may not be possible if it is nicotine exposure because of how severe the poisoning is, even if it is just in small quantities.  Always keep vape devices and refill cartridges beyond your pet’s reach.  This is the best you can do to prevent poisoning problems.
