Tail Problems in Dogs

Problems with a dog’s tail are uncommon. However, tail disorders can be challenging to cure, primarily because dogs dislike wearing a tail bandage. Below are some of the most prevalent dog tail issues.

Dog Bites

Some dogs love playing with other dogs. However, playing can quickly turn into a source of pain. Dog tails are vulnerable to injuries, especially when dogs play with each other or flee from another aggressive animal.

Skin Infection

Skin infections on a dog’s tail result from various factors, including allergies and wounds, making dogs gnaw and scratch their tails. The tail has very little additional skin, and it is hard to get the skin to heal once it splits into an open wound.

Sprain

Tail sprains are most commonly due to overuse, especially in dogs that swim frequently and use the tail as a rudder. When the muscles in the tail become fatigued, the tiny joints and ligaments in the tail become stressed, and the tail becomes flaccid.

If your dog has any tail issues, it is a good idea to have it checked by your vet Santa Rosa, CA. Learn more here.
