Is Your Cat at Risk of Feline Lower Urinary Tract Disease?

FLUTD or Feline Urinary Tract Disease is a blanket term for several urinary issues in cats.  Without proper treatment, FLUTD can lead to overall kidney failure then become fatal.  A cat that has FLUTD will have a hard time urinating because of an infection or a urethral blockage.  Generally, all cats can develop FLUTD.  But clinical evidence shows that spayed or neutered cats have higher chances of getting FLUTD.  An overweight pet cat is also likely to get FLUTD.  The absence of physical exercise can make a cat overweight, increasing her likelihood to develop certain diseases.  Pet diet can also contribute to this.  A cat that often consumes dry kitty kibble is found to be more vulnerable to FLUTD than one that is fed canned food. When you start noticing FLUTD symptoms displayed by your cat such as behavior changes, abdominal pain, or changes to her urination habits, bring your cat over to the vet immediately for medical intervention.
