Canine acne or chin acne, also known to be furunculosis or folliculitis, can be the inflammation of a hair follicle (the latter), or a ruptured pus-filled, infected, and impacted follicle (former). Dog acne can be caused by multiple blackheads or come dones on the animal’s lips and chin where coarse and short hairs grow. This area might also become inflamed, swollen, bleeding, or crusty. If your pet has this condition, he will feel itchy and might also be in pain. All dogs are susceptible to acne. But short-coated ones make up a majority of the sufferers. Dog acne can also be categorized as a kind of pyoderma.
Furunculosis and folliculitis are the technical terms for this skin condition. If a hair follicle is inflamed, it is called folliculitis. When it becomes impacted or infected, then it is called furunculosis. If the root cause of the acne is not identified and treated, it can become chronic and complicate further into a critical health issue.
