Perfect Vision? An Imperfect Term

You’ve probably heard the term 20/20 vision. Most likely, you associate it with perfect vision. However, that isn’t necessarily the case. The 20/20 rating really refers to distance, and is often used to gauge refractive errors. Thing is, many eye errors have nothing to do with refraction.

It’s also important to understand that many eye diseases don’t affect vision at all … at least not at first. This includes conditions such as AMD, glaucoma, and cataracts. Over time, that will change. Many conditions, if left untreated, will eventually cause vision loss. Some, such as glaucoma, can cause blindness. Someone could easily have 20/20 vision, but still have a serious, undiagnosed issue as well.

This is why it’s so important to go to your Yorba Linda, CA eye care center for comprehensive eye exams regularly. If you haven’t been to your in a while, it’s in your best interest to make an appointment. You only get one set of eyes!
