Eye Styes

You’ve likely heard of eye styes. These are small bumps on the edge of your eyelid. They often look like a small cyst or zit. Eye styes are a bit more complicated than pimples, though. They happen due to staph infections, which are more common than many people realize.

There are two kinds of styes. External styes appear at the root of an eyelash. These can be quite painful, and may be filled with pus. Internal styes happen inside the eyelid, and are actually even more painful than the external ones. This can also cause cellulitis, which is an infection in the eyelid itself.

Fortunately, most styes will go away on their own. If you have one, a warm, wet compress may help bring it to a head. However, if your stye doesn’t go away, you’ll need to contact your Eye Care Center Los Angeles CA  for advice. In some cases, professional treatment and/or medication may be necessary.
