Tips For Stress-Less Travel With Your Pet Turtle

When transporting your new pet turtle, you must plan ahead of time to make the trip comfortable for your pet as much as possible. It can be very stressful for your turtle as well.

First, you must place the turtle in a plastic box that has holes meant for sufficient ventilation. Make sure that the box can be closed securely since turtles are known to escape quite easily. In the box, provide padding, like a towel or old shirt that has no loose threads, in the box. You use paper towels or newspapers as well for the same purpose. Ensure that the box is big enough for your turtle to fit in.

It’s important to remember that turtles can survive out of the water for a long time. When it comes to long trips, you can dampen the padding in the box or spray the turtle liberally. Spraying them with water is to cool down their bodies, but you still have to make sure that they’re warm enough. If the trip will only last for a few hours only, then the red-eared slider turtles, which are semi-aquatic turtles, are perfectly fine staying out of the water.

Any concern you may have about your pet’s health and/or behavior should be brought to the attention of your veterinarian Middletown, DE.
