Follow these tips to ensure your pet’s well-being during winter.
●Keep chemicals out of reach.
Winter chemicals like antifreeze usually contain chemicals (like ethylene glycol), which can be deadly when ingested. Rocksalt, although not as harmful, causes burning and discomfort to the paws and stomach. To easily avoid your pet getting close to rocksalt, put him on pet booties during outdoor walks.
●Use waterproof clothes.
Bringing your pet outside during winter makes him more likely to get wet, so it’s best to put your pet on a waterproof coat/sweater. Instead of providing warmth, your pet can only get ill when you let him wear cold and wet clothes.
●Be cautious of your warming devices.
Don’t let your pet come close to warming/heating devices (e.g., electric blankets, space heater, and open flames) without your supervision. A pet who’s feeling cold is more likely to come close to such devices, increasing the risk for burns and other injuries. If your pet is showing any signs of illness, make an appointment with your animal hospital Raleigh, NC.
