Simple Changes In Your Home To Help Your Cat With Arthritis

If your pet cat is arthritic, doing normal things such as jumping off kitchen counters, using her litter box, or jumping up for a window view could become quite painful.  Thankfully, you can help your cat improve her quality of living and manage her pain by doing some environmental changes.

Make litter boxes more accessible.  The importance of conveniently placed litter boxes for every pet cat and arthritic cats, in particular, cannot be stressed enough.  Osteoarthritis-related joint pain could impede your pet’s mobility.  Arthritic cats could often have potty “accidents” outside their litter boxes simply because using them hurts.

A lot of commercially available litter boxes might have sides too tall for an arthritic cat to climb out of and into.  When selecting litter boxes for an arthritic cat, choose one that has at least one of its sides so low that your pet can get inside and outside without needing to jump, probably around 3 inches or if possible, even less than that.  One other option is for you to cut out a notch on one of the sides of a litter box that you already have so that your cat has a lower point of entry.

If you have concerns about your pet’s litter box habits, make an appointment with your veterinary clinic New Orleans, LA.
